Greetings from San Antonio
Mom and I are writing from the lobby of the Marriott in San Antonio! We are actually sitting side by side on our laptops.
Earlier we went on a riverwalk boat cruise. The riverwalk is so impressive with the architecture and history! The evening
was beautiful and the weather perfect!
I think this convention is off to a great start!!

Busy Busy Busy
We have been working feverishly preparing to leave for San Antonio! Mom and Dad (Karen and Dave) are leaving tomorrow
afternoon. We will be loading the car tonight and they are driving all the way to San Antonio. The trip is 2073 miles and
Mapquest estimates 33 1/2 hours! Normally, I drive with Mom but I need to be back at work on September 2nd so Dad will be
taking my place in the passenger seat and I get to have a leisurely flight to San Antonio. My son, Damian, and I can have a fun weekend together and I fly out on Tuesday
which just happens to be Damian's first day back to school!
Part of me can't wait for the convention and
another part wishes that we had one more week to prepare!
San Antonio, ready or not, here we come!

Wild Turkeys
On my way to work this morning I saw a flock of wild turkeys. It isn't strange to see them, in fact, it is a bit odd
not to see any on my way to or from work. What made the turkeys special on this morning is that there were several adult
turkeys and many baby turkeys. The babies seemed to be different ages. Some were small with downy puff feathers while others
were larger with sleeker feathers. They were all quite cute! There may have been as many as 30 turkeys in this flock.
My favorite thing about the wild turkeys is that when they cross the road one turkey always acts as a crossing guard.
When I approach them with my car, I can see them filing across the road. I always stop to wait and watch. One turkey seems
to stand in the middle of the road as the rest hurry to cross in single file. After the final turkey has crossed, the crossing
guard falls into the end of the line. There must be some purpose to this method even if it isn't to usher the other turkeys
safely across the road.
This morning, the guard took his place as the caboose and the scurried into the woods.
Just as I was about to continue on my way to work, one last turkey, a medium sized baby, darted out from the weeds on the
roadside, and crossed into the woods safely disappearing. I guess he was the rebellious youth in the group!
I will continue to look for the turkeys as a travel the roads in my neighborhood watching for more turkey drama!

NH Craftsmen's Fair
Today is the last day of the 75th Annual League of NH Craftmen's Fair. The fair which is the oldest craft fair in the US began in 1933 as a small event in a local barn. This week, 75 years later,
the fair features more than 200 individual booths of NH Artisans and their beautiful craftsmanship at the Mount Sunapee
Resort in Newbury, NH. This is not your local church fair! There are glassblowers, woodworkers, potters, photographers,
sculptors and jewelry makers among others! Not only can you view and purchase pieces at the fair, but you can also take a
workshop. Some of this year's workshops included soap carving, pinched pottery and glass blowing. The League of NH Craftsmen has retail galleries around NH so that some of the items seen at the fair can be purchased year round. It gives
the artists a chance to showcase their work throughout the year and offers educational art programs. This article
in New Hampshire Home Magazine features several of the amazing artisans. I think that you will be as impressed by their talents as I am.
